The 2nd TBI-MIG Workshop is the second in the series of workshops conducted by the TB Modelling Secretariat of NDMC, led by Prof. Sarika Mehra, Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Bombay, and Prof. Mithun Mitra, Department of Physics, IIT Bombay, in collaboration with Prof. Nimalan Arinaminpathy, Team Lead, World Health Organisation (WHO). The workshop brought together researchers and participants to share updates on TB modelling, gain insights from experts, and engage in practical exercises. Dr. Sandip Mandal, Adjunct Associate Professor, KCDH, IIT Bombay, Senior Advisor- Data Analytics and Mathematical Modelling, John Snow India; Dr. Vineet Chadha Public Health Expert and TB epidemiologist, Ex-advisor, National TB Institute, Ex-director, National Leprosy and Training Institute; Dr. Surabhi Pandey, Founder, BL Pandey Foundation for Social Initiatives, Gurugram and Member, steering committee, TB modelling and Analysis consortium; and Dr. Kiran Kumar Rade, International Technical Consultant, STOP TB partnership and Independent consultant at WHO Headquarters and SEARO served as resource persons, fostering meaningful discussions and providing valuable guidance throughout the workshop. A total of 13 participants from NDMC, ICMR - National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE), ICMR-National Institute of Translational Virology and AIDS Research (NITVAR), International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), Visva Bharati University, WHO, ICMR-National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT) and National Tuberculosis Institute (NTI) attended the workshop.
Day 1 began with welcome remarks and introductions of new participants followed by talks on “Estimating tuberculosis incidence and mortality in India” by Dr. Sandip Mandal and and “Introduction to GitHub and Practice Examples” by Prof. Saket Choudhary, Assistant Professor, KCDH, IIT Bombay.
Day 2 focused on updates from the different modelling groups. The day began with “Introduction to structuring a modelling manuscript for public health journals” by Prof. Nimalan Arinaminpathy, followed by sessions dedicated to group updates. In the afternoon, Dr. Vineet Chadha, delivered a talk on “My tuberculosis epidemiology journey: Implications for TB program interventions, activities and strategy”.
On Day 3, the morning session opened with a presentation by Dr. Shamim Mannan, Deputy Director, Infectious Diseases, Clinton Foundation, and Mr. Manoj Singh, Associate Director, Clinton Foundation, on “Active case finding in India using ultra-portable X-ray with Computer Aided Diagnosis”. The remainder of the sessions included group updates on modelling and concluded with exercises on modelling.
