As part of the initiative to lead regional stakeholder meetings on Technology in Healthcare - India’s Mantra for Universal Health Coverage, NDMC, in collaboration with the Women’s Collective Forum, organised a meeting under the guidance of Prof. Siuli Mukhopadhyay.
Speakers from government, academia, industry, and NGOs shared their perspectives on the role of technology in achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in India, with a focus on vaccine preventable diseases.
The meeting commenced with a talk by Dr. Rajiv Bahl, DG-Indian Council of Medical Research, who shared his views on the role of technology in achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Dr. Pawan Kumar, Additional Commissioner (Immunization), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, presented on Digital Innovations in Immunization: A Pathway to Universal Health Coverage. This was followed by a talk by Dr. N.K. Arora, Director, INCLEN Trust who shared insights on Digitalization of Health & Wellness Centres - Current Status and Way Forward. Dr. Sheela Godbole, Director, National Institute of Translational Virology and AIDS Research, provided her perspectives on Pandemic Preparedness. Dr. Viduthalai Virumbi, Founder, Honeybee Population Healthcare Foundation, delivered a talk on Population Scale Data Fiduciary: Establishing Denominator for Achieving UHC. Mr. Parag Deshmukh, Executive Director, Serum Institute of India, then addressed the audience with a talk on Bridging the Gap: Vaccine Industry Perspectives on Meeting India's Immunization Needs. Prof. Souvik Banerjee, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, presented on Cognitive Health Among Middle-aged and Older Adults in India - The Role of Depression. Dr. Arup Deb Roy, Project Director, John Snow India, shared insights on Digital Tools Used in New Vaccine Introduction. Dr. Priyanki Shah, Senior Project Manager, Pune Knowledge Foundation, talked about Open Source Disease Data and UHC. Dr. Avinash Supe, Emeritus Professor, KEM Hospital, presented the Role of AI and Digital Technology in Universal Health Coverage. Prof. Ajit Rajwade, IIT Bombay, delivered a talk on Pooled Testing of COVID-19 RT-PCR Samples. Finally, Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh and Dr. Amit Bhondve, Department of Community Medicine, King Edward Medical Hospital, spoke on Leveraging AI for Health Equity.
The meeting was successful in addressing key challenges and opportunities in integrating digital technology into healthcare services. The discussions emphasised the importance of digitalisation in immunization, pandemic preparedness, AI applications, and open data access for achieving UHC.
