Roundtable discussion on diabetes modelling

March 25 - 26, 2026

The diabetes modelling team at NDMC convened to present their ongoing work and seek input from leading diabetologists across the country.

Prof. Mithun Kumar Mitra, who is leading the diabetes modelling work at NDMC, discussed the current model structure of diabetes. Prof. Santu Ghosh from St John's Medical College, Bangalore, presented the progress on disease burden estimation, leveraging existing data sources.

ICMR researchers, Dr. Prashant Mathur (ICMR-NINE), Dr Roopa Shivashankar (ICMR Headquarters), Dr P K Singh (ICMR-NICPR), Dr Vaitheeswaran (ICMR-NCDIR), Dr Lucky Singh (ICMR Headquarters), Dr Samarasimha Reddy (ICMR-NIN), and Dr Hemant Mahajan (ICMR-NIN), provided their inputs.

On Day One, Dr Nikhil Tandon (AIIMS, Delhi) and Dr S V Madhu (University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi) joined the team and provided valuable feedback on data sources that can be leveraged for modelling purposes, as well as insightful perspectives on the distinct clinical pathways of disease progression and associated risk factors.

On Day Two, Dr V Mohan (Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, Chennai) and Dr Ashok Kumar Das (MGMCRI, Puducherry) offered crucial insights on the progression of disease from pre-diabetes to diabetes, and on the importance of acting within the critical window of opportunity to alleviate the growing burden of the disease. The discussions also touched on emerging therapies and technologies for diabetes prevention and management, and their implications for intervention modelling.
